How Blessed is the Man

How blessed is the one who does not follow the advice of the wicked,

or stand in the pathway with sinners,

or sit in the assembly of scoffers.

How blessed. How rich in true riches is the man...

Instead he finds pleasure in obeying the Lord’s commands;

he meditates on his commands day and night.

He meditates on the Lord's commands...

How often do we meditate on the Lord's commands? That is more than reading them. It is more than a study. It is spending time with them and allowing them to sink deep into our heart. It is letting the Lord apply those commands to our lives.

He is like a tree planted by flowing streams;

it yields its fruit at the proper time,

and its leaves never fall off.

He succeeds in everything he attempts.

A beautiful picture of abundant life.

Not so with the wicked!

Instead they are like wind-driven chaff.

Wind-driven chaff is blown away and lost in the wind.

For this reason the wicked cannot withstand judgment,

nor can sinners join the assembly of the godly.

There will be judgment for all. Those who have set God and his commands in their hearts and lives, will be received by the Lord.

Certainly the Lord guards the way of the godly,

but the way of the wicked ends in destruction.

Psalm 1

There are two roads. One leads to life and one to destruction. The Lord guards those on the road to life.
